Location of the Month: December 2018

Welcome to the first ever Location of the Month! In the winter of 2018-2019, all the locations of the week will be located in the Andes Mountains.

Location of the Month: Winter 2018-2019

Huascaran, viewed from Yungay
Name: Huascaran (Waskaran in Quechua, the language spoken in the area)
Location: Yungay Province, Peru
Elevation: 6,768 m (22,205 ft) above sea level
Prominence: 9,108 ft
Isolation: 1,365 miles

Huascaran, with an eleveation of 6,768 meters(22,205 feet), is the tallest mountain in Peru, 4th highest in the Andes range of South America, and also the 4th highest in the Western Hemisphere. Huascaran is the tallest mountain in the Northern Andes and in the tropics. Huascaran lies in the Cordillera Blanca range, a sub-range of the larger Andes Mountains. The mountain was named after Huascar, an Inca emperor who ruled in the 16th century. The summit at Huascaran is the place on Earth with the least gravitational force, and the mountain is made up of Cenozoic Granite. Huascaran has two peaks, Huascaran Norte (North peak) and Huascaran Sur (South Peak). The "saddle" between the two peaks is named La Garganta. The summit of Huascaran is one of the farthest points away from the Earth's core, just behind the summit of Chimborazo, which is the farthest you can get from Earth's core while still on Earth's surface.
Huascaran is usually climbed from the east side of the mountain, in the via the village of Musho. The climb takes about 5-7 days, depending on the weather and climber.

English Premier League-Match Day 13

This week was a wild one in English football with great match ups and results.

I mean Chelsea getting hammered 3-1 over the weekend against a strong Spurs side, sets Spurs above Chelsea in the league table. Also with Manchester United dropping points again at home against Crystal Palace. Arsenal also pulled off the win against Bournemouth this weekend which puts them 5th in the table. Man City dominated West Ham and sit at the top.

                                                                                              A wonderful week of football

Bichon Frise

Hi! I am Bichon Frise an editor and also a literature writer on this blog. I just go by Bichon Frise, but the word "Beautified" really suits me because every time a person walks by they say "She's so cute!" and pet me. So, since I am technically the most beautiful puppy on Earth, I named myself "Beautified Bichon Frise". I will be posting stories/articles "Like" every once a week that are usually about me and other special things that my owner (Hannah) and I love! I will also be posting some stories in this blog so everyone will know how special and smart I am! I don't usually spend my time on my "Own" computer because I am mostly busy just looking at myself in the mirror and yell things I love about myself. I am more of an indoor person because who likes nature, bugs, or other disgusting outdoors when you have a whole mansion to yourself and a bathroom where there's a mirror. I have been begging Hannah for like 2 years to take me to Claire's and by me those super tacky accessories and bows, but I always get the same reply, "Didn't I tell you?! The store don't allow dogs to enter!" I know I can be bratty sometimes, but no once can't stand a very fashionable and cute puppy. Now since I have said everything (while looking at myself in the mirror and Hannah suspiciously looking at me) I decided to, again, start begging Hannah to take me to Justice. So Toodles!

Creative Corgi

Hi! I am Creative Corgi, but you can just call me Corgi. I am an editor on the Monthly Puppy and I might also write some articles. I am a Pembroke Welsh Corgi and I live with my owner, Claire. I love to eat raspberries, avocados, mango sorbet, and flatbread pizza. My outdoor hobbies include rolling down hills and jumping hurdles. In fact, I usually win first at dog shows in that event. When I am on my computer, I like searching for cute pictures, reading Webtoons, and contributing to the Monthly Puppy! My biggest accomplishments are winning first at this year's annual dog show, having beautiful toe beans, and looking adorable every single day. Seriously. People think I am so cute. When I strut past them, they stare and drool at me. On the Monthly Puppy I will be editing most articles and I will probably write one every month (about art or books or whatever comes to mind).

This is me.

This is me jumping hurdles.

Pyrenees Pup

Hello, fellow pups! I am Pyrenees Pup, one of you bloggers for this blog. I will be posting articles like this about twice a month or sooner. People usually think of me as a deaf dog and useless, but I am much better than that! I will be posting mainly on history about places and things. I just love the history of war dogs. My favorite book is called 'Dogs of War,' and has 3 stories about life-saving dogs. I also post about upcoming weather and fun holidays like Christmas and Easter. I do countdowns and for New Year's Eve, something really special! I am in Puppy Scouts, along with Pomeranian Puppy and Goldendoodle. I will post about the history of wherever we go camping and lots more. Make sure to share this with others and subscribe!

Snow in November!

☃⛄☁SNOW IN NOVEMBER☁⛄☃

WOW! I can hardly believe that it already snowed 3 inches, although it is still November! winter storm Avery, the first winter storm of the 2018-2019 winter, has dumped up to 18 inches of snow in the Adirondack Mountains in New York, and 3 inches in my hometown of Ellicott City. Snow accumulation has been reported all the way south into Louisiana, and north into Canada! I had a blast playing in the snow and battling the icy monster my owner was building. After that, I went inside and dried myself on the couch and now I am typing this post.
Mount Snow in Vermont got the most snow recorded in the storm, with 18.3 inches. Washington, D.C, recorded up to 2 inches, while New York City recorded 1 inch. Many areas in Maine recorded record low temperatures due to the snowstorm.

Sugarloaf Mountain

⛰🏔Sugarloaf Mountain🏔⛰

A few days ago, Pom Puppy, Pyrenees and I went on a camping trip to Sugarloaf Mountain with the Puppy Scouts. The temperature dipped below freezing at night, but my fur kept me warm. We went stargazing at night, and we saw many constellations, such as Orion, Perseus, and Taurus.
Sugarloaf Mountain is 1,283 feet high, a monadnock, which is an isolated hill or mountain protruding from a flat landscape. The mountain is nested in the Blue Ridge Mountains, in Frederick, Maryland. The mountain was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in June, 1969. In the same year, Sugarloaf Mountain was also designated as a National Natural Landmark. The rock in the mountains is 500.33178 million years old! We had a wonderful time hiking up to the summit of Sugarloaf Mountain and enjoying the view.
Sugarloaf Mountain is visible from many parts of Northern Montgomery County and Southern Frederick County, notably from the part of Interstate 270 north of Germantown. Sugarloaf Mountain is an admission free, privately owned scenic park, so you can visit Sugarloaf whenever you want to!
The mountain was visited in 1712 by Christopher von Graffenreid, 1st Baron of Bernberg and his French-Canadian guide, Martin Chartier, along with some Native Americans.
Sugarloaf Mountain also played an important part in the American Civil War. During the Maryland Campaign, Union troops occupied the summit of Sugarloaf, which was used as an observation and signal station.
In the early 1900s, Gordon Strong, a Chicago Businessman, bought the land around the mountain, taking ownership of Sugarloaf.
President Franklin D. Roosevelt briefly considered Sugarloaf Mountain as his presidential retreat, but abandoned the idea.
At Sugarloaf Mountain, you can hike, rock climb, picnic, and go sightseeing. There is also a nearby vineyard that you can go to.

Goldendoodle

Hi, I am Goldendoodle the geographer and one of your editors on the blog. I will be posting articles in the blog weekly or biweekly, and they're usually about geography. I just love the way nature looks when you look out the window! I've seen photos of beautiful natural wonders, from Mount Roraima in Venezuela to the Son Doong cave in Vietnam, and to Banff National Park in Alberta. It is important that these natural wonders are preserved, as more than 150 acres or forest are lost every minute due to deforestation. Another topic I will post about is meteorology. I will post on any snow in my area, but will take your area if you tell me in the comments. I may also occasionally post on astronomy, as the night sky has always fascinated me. Pom Pom, Pyrenees and I are both in Puppy Scouts, so we go camping often.🐺

🐶The Science of (Puppy) Love🐶

🐶Puppy Love🐶

If you are reading this, you know that puppies are the most adorable things in the world. But did you know that they love you equally back? Here are this month's five cute fun facts:

  1.  Puppies can help you focus. Although it is counter-intuitive, looking at cute puppy pictures while working can actually increase your productivity. So, don't be afraid! If a colleague wonders why you spend your time looking at puppy photos, tell them it is making you work more efficiently.
  2. Baby dogs can't see or hear. Newborn dogs cannot hear until about 4 weeks, and it takes around 6 weeks from their eyes to develop. Even though they can't hear or see you, do not be discouraged. You can keep on loving newborn pups as they can still feel your love through your warmth and touch.
  3. Breeds matter. There is a lot of difference between different types of dogs. It changes their personality, food choices, people preferences, and how quickly they become afraid of a sound or action. Now, next time you get a dog, do some research. First find out which breed is right for you, then you can cuddle up and play!
  4. You can teach an old dog new tricks (sorta). Studies have shown that the older a dog is, the more responsive they are to cuing hand gestures. If your young puppy isn't learning the tricks you are trying to teach him or her, do not worry. With age, they will learn the trick soon enough.
  5. Your dog does love you too. If you have ever wanted a pet wolf, you might want to reconsider it. Wolves who were raised by humans from birth reacted the same way to strangers as they did to their owners. Dogs, on the other hand, started showing affection for their owners after only 4 months. If you ever have questioned the intention of the love in your dog's eyes, know it is for you, not your food.
So, now you know a little more about your amazingly cute, fluffy, sweet puppy. See you next month on The Monthly Puppy! 🐺
